Responsibility for notification #
The person in charge of a pathology laboratory must notify the secretary of the Department of Health that a person has or may have any notifiable condition, including HIV. (s94(b) Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2019)
A medical practitioner who reasonably believes that a patient has, or may have HIV, or has, or may have died from HIV, must provide written notification to the Department of Health within 5 days of initial diagnosis, using the forms available at www.health.vic.gov.au/notify (s93(b) Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2019).
Mode of notification #
The person in charge of the pathology service must notify the secretary of the notification details prescribed by reg 94(b), sch 4(pt 3)), including the patient code, sex, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander status and date of birth of the person (Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2019 (Vic) reg 94, sch 4. A medical practitioner must notify the secretary of the notification details prescribed by reg 93(b), sch 3(pt 3)), including the patient code, sex, Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander status and date of birth of the person (Public Health and Wellbeing Regulations 2019 (Vic) reg 93, sch 3).
