Generally, the medical practitioner conveying the result is responsible for undertaking contact tracing in consultation with their patient. Under section 8 of the Notifiable Diseases Act1981 (NT), a medical practitioner must notify the chief executive of a provisional or clinical diagnosis of a notifiable condition. Contact tracing in some circumstances may be delegated to a specialist contact tracer. Section 9 of the Notifiable Disease Act 1981 (NT) states that an HIV-positive person must provide his or her medical practitioner, medical officer or authorised person with the names and addresses of all persons from whom they may have acquired HIV, or all persons with whom they have been in contact with, during a specified period of time.
